KMWB Secures Favorable Resolution in Housing Discrimination Case
KMWB recently obtained a successful outcome on behalf of a property owner in a housing discrimination investigation before the New York State Division of Human Rights (DHR). The tenant alleged discrimination based on her lawful source of income because she received a rental subsidy and further claimed that management ignored her noise complaints and repair requests.
After a full review of leasing records, management’s response logs, and resident interviews, the agency concluded there was no evidence of discrimination and dismissed the complaint in its entirety. The record confirmed that our client accepted the tenant’s rental subsidy, approved the application, and consistently responded to reported issues. Management also implemented noise-mitigation measures, verified compliance through inspection and photographs, and addressed maintenance requests as they arose. These steps demonstrated compliance and ultimately led to the favorable result. Read decision here.
This matter underscores how important it is for property owners to keep thorough records, respond promptly to tenant concerns, and show clear evidence of compliance when faced with an agency inquiry. At KMWB, we understand how stressful these investigations can be and how quickly they can escalate. Our attorneys are experienced in navigating DHR and NYCCHR proceedings and know what it takes to achieve the best possible resolution.
