Uncertainty Still Looming After Gov. Cuomo’s New Order
Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s new executive order narrowing the eviction moratorium goes into effect on June 20.
What does that mean for NYC landlords?
“There remains a cloud of uncertainty throughout the industry as to how these executive orders are to be interpreted, and real estate parties must be able to rely on stability and certainty,” KMWB’s Nativ Winiarsky told Law360.
While tenant attorneys are working to understand how the order changes their responsibility to show that their clients fit into a protected category, landlord attorneys are likewise finding the order’s language “too confusing to plan around.”
Attorneys are still fighting for clarification; however, Nativ shared a message with Law360 that he sent to New York Civil Court Administrative Judge Anthony Cannatoro.
All eyes are set on June 20, at which point courts will have been closed for about three months.
